Basketball Recap: Nixon-Smiley Find Success

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Nixon-Smiley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Karnes City Badgers 50-47. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Badgers back in January, they had to take a 68-39 loss.

When it comes to explaining why Karnes City lost, don't look at Savion Nixon-Thompson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Nixon-Thompson's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. JJ Beaver was another key player, putting up seven points.

Nixon-Smiley's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15. As for Karnes City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-15.

Nixon-Smiley will head out to take on Poth at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Poth will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Nixon-Smiley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Karnes City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stockdale at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Karnes City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.
