League recap: Chapin wins, gets boost in standings

4A Region I District 1 recap October 1, 2013

Chapin was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fifth in 4A Region I District 1. The Huskies vanquished Jefferson 40-7 earlier in the week.

El Paso scaled the state rankings by moving to 707 from 811 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Irvin 27-0.

Bryant Wolf threw for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Ricky Olivas was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 150 yards as Austin lost to Chapin. Ruben Perinon also contributed to the rushing game with 20 yards on the ground.

Rene Hernandez's team's Seth Gonzales and Brannon Bullitt led 4A Region I District 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Gonzales has thrown for 841 yards this season, while Bullitt, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 344 yards. The Panthers' Olivas leads the league in rushing yards with 899.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Huskies and Bowie face off next week.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Chapin takes on the Bears. At the moment, the Huskies are in fifth, while Bowie is in first.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Robert Padilla's team beat Austin 40-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Bears.
