Lovington suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after losing to Hobbs. The Wildcats had been ranked 22nd, but fell to 28.
Ruidoso's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bryce Pompos threw for 168 and one touchdown and Parker Johnson had 90 yards receiving. On the ground Devon Carr chipped in 32 yards. Ismail LaPaz helped Ruidoso's passing attack out by catching three balls for 56 yards.
Ruidoso's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Pompos has thrown for 978 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 34 catches for 580 yards. Carr leads the league in rushing with 561 yards.
Portales made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,396 from 10,767. The improvement was the result of 19-13 victory over Hope Christian last week.
