Basketball Recap: Superior Comes Up Short

Superior was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the San Simon Longhorns.

Despite the defeat, Superior saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sammy Broussard posted nine points and eight rebounds. Those nine points gave Broussard a new career-high. Brandon Ramirez also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Superior smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

San Simon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Brown led the charge by putting up seven points and 11 boards. Brown is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marcos Hernandez, who earned ten points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Superior's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for San Simon, their record is now 6-14.

Superior didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-34 defeat against Cicero Prep Academy on the 28th. San Simon has also already played their next contest, a 45-43 loss against San Manuel on the 29th.
