Baseball Recap: Speedway Has No Trouble Against Beech Grove

Speedway never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Beech Grove Hornets with a sharp 10-0 win. The Sparkplugs haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Bradley Howard made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Speedway is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-12-1 otherwise. Howard was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Speedway let Keller Socks and Logan Moore run wild. Socks went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Moore went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Socks a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Broida, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.

Speedway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beech Grove only posted an OBP of .062.

Speedway's win bumped their record up to 6-13-1. As for Beech Grove, they dropped their record down to 4-17 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Speedway will take on Park Tudor at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Sparkplugs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Beech Grove, they will welcome Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
