Basketball Recap: Jefferson West Starts off Right with Win over Valley Falls

Jefferson West took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They breezed past the Valley Falls Dragons to the tune of 67-22. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2024.

Jefferson West found their leader in freshman Brynlee Koontz, who dropped a double-double with 35 points and 14 steals. Another player making a difference was Emmie Dean, who posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Jefferson West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Valley Falls dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Jefferson West will challenge Jefferson County North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Valley Falls, they will take on Oskaloosa on Tuesday.
