Football Recap: Kennedy Catholic Comes Up Short

If Kennedy Catholic was feeling good fresh off their 34-0 takedown of Nazareth last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gaels fell just short of the Christ the King Royals by a score of 40-37 on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (34), the Gaels still had to take the loss.

Defeat or not, Kennedy Catholic got some senior leadership from Aidan Kinsley and KJ Dillon. Kinsley picked up 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Dillon threw for 235 yards and five TDs. Dillon is becoming a predictor of the Gaels' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't).

Isaiah Smith produced another solid effort rushing for 267 yards and five scores on only 14 carries for Christ the King. Smith's longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Kennedy Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Christ the King, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kennedy Catholic will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Francis Prep at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Christ the King, they will host Nazareth at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
