Softball Recap: Elkhart Gets the Win

The third road matchup was the charm for Elkhart, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the South Bend Riley Wildcats on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Laci Stimac spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Fionna Topolski, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Bailey Harris-Rogers also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Elkhart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Riley only posted a batting average of .222.

Elkhart now has a winning record of 3-2. As for South Bend Riley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-2 record.

Elkhart will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
