Preview: Bishop O'Dowd Dragons vs. Piedmont Highlanders
Bishop O'Dowd is 10-0 against Piedmont since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Bishop O'Dowd Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Piedmont Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Bishop O'Dowd knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully Piedmont likes a good challenge.
A well-balanced attack led Bishop O'Dowd over Alameda in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Bishop O'Dowd blew Alameda out of the water with a 83-47 final score. Bishop O'Dowd pushed the score to 67-35 by the end of the third, a deficit Alameda had no chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bishop O'Dowd to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joshua Green, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Chris Jackson, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Piedmont waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Marin Catholic by a score of 56-44. Given Piedmont's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Marin Catholic is ranked 414th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop O'Dowd pushed their record up to 14-6 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Piedmont, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Bishop O'Dowd didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Piedmont when the teams last played on January 4th, but they still walked away with a 57-52 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop O'Dowd since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
