Football Game Preview: Lytle Pirates vs. Hondo Owls

Lytle hasn't had much luck against Hondo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will take on the Owls at 7:00 p.m. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Weston Jackson and Kolten Alvarez.

Lytle's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Poteet on Friday. They took a 13-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aggies. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Pirates were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Hondo was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Cole 49-21. The result was nothing new for the Owls, who have now won three games by 28 points or more so far this season.

Lytle better keep an eye on Andrew Tapia. He was instrumental in Hondo's win, rushing for 136 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries. The dominant performance also gave Tapia a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Hondo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 401 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 290 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Lytle's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Hondo, their record now sits at 5-1.

Lytle came up short against Hondo in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 28-20. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
