Softball Game Preview: Lakewood Spartans vs. Northeast Vikings

Lakewood is 0-7 against Northeast since April of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. Lakewood will square off against Northeast at 7:00 p.m. Lakewood has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lakewood is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-0 to Osceola, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, Northeast got the win against Pinellas Park on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-5. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

Danielle Brunner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Ava Twinam was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lashell Roberts, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

Twinam wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Northeast kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. Northeast is 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Northeast's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Lakewood suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Northeast in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Lakewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
