Baseball Recap: Columbia Wins Going Away Against Stevenson

After losing to Stevenson the last time they met, Columbia decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bruins were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Bulldogs on Monday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 3, 2019, but that streak is no more.

Kai Brasuell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and not a single walk). He has become a key player for Columbia: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-10 otherwise. Brasuell was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaden Wang was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Columbia's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Kellen Olson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Columbia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Columbia's record now sits at 7-11. As for Stevenson, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Columbia will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
