Basketball Recap: Warren Piles Up the Points Against Stevens

Warren had won three straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 23-7 to make it four. They took their game with ease, bagging a 74-26 win over the Stevens Falcons. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 contests by 23 points or more this season.

Warren found their leader in freshman Brooklyn Hernandez, who went 8-for-17 en route to 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Davis, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 12 points and four steals.

Warren smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

As for Stevens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-22 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 983rd, while Warren is ranked 103rd).

When it comes to explaining why Stevens lost, don't look at Andra Stokes. Despite the final result, she went 5-for-12 on her way to 17 points and three steals. Samarah Ghalleb also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Warren wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-40 victory against Taft on the 27th. As for Stevens, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-25 defeat against Sotomayor on the 27th.
