Basketball Recap: Wylie Beats Garland for Their Fourth Straight Win

Wylie won the last time they faced Garland and things went their way on Friday too. The Wylie Pirates put the hurt on the Garland Owls with a sharp 65-42 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-18.

Despite the loss, Garland saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zoe Sample posted 17 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Sample has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zaquita Skinner, who had five points.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Wylie, bringing their record for this year to 17-11. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.8 points per game. As for Garland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-15.

Coincidentally, Wylie and Garland will both be playing Lakeview Centennial the next time they take the court. Garland will host Lakeview Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Wylie will head out to face them at 6:15 p.m. on January 31st.
