The Culver Academies Eagles will head out to challenge the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Kouts will be up against a hot Culver Academies team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. The Eagles put the hurt on Knox with a sharp 10-2 victory on Wednesday.
Foster Stockton and Max Grundberg made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Stockton tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Meanwhile, Grundberg tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stockton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Stockton went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, while Grundberg went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Preston Jessen, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Schumacher, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Culver Academies kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Kouts got the win against Westville on Monday by a conclusive 13-3. That's two games straight that the Mustangs & Fillies have won by exactly ten runs.
Like Culver Academies, Kouts also got a great game from a two-way player: Landon Garrett. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Garrett was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ben Finney was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Eli Harper was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Culver Academies' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Kouts, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2.
Both Culver Academies and Kouts just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Kouts struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Culver Academies might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Kouts in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
