Softball Game Preview: Verona Hillbillies vs. Newark Academy Minutemen

The Verona Hillbillies will square off against the Newark Academy Minutemen at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Verona will be strutting in after a victory while Newark Academy will be coming in after a loss.

Last Friday, Verona had just enough and edged out West Essex 2-1.

Meanwhile, Newark Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 6-1 to Nutley.

Verona's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Newark Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Verona took their victory against Newark Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hillbillies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
