Amphitheater hasn't had much luck against Walden Grove recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Amphitheater Panthers will host the Walden Grove Red Wolves at 4:00 p.m. Amphitheater has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Amphitheater lost 22-1 to Thatcher on Wednesday. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Talisa Yrigolla was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Walden Grove). Everything went their way against Flowing Wells two weeks ago as Walden Grove made off with a 13-1 win. The Red Wolves not only won two weeks ago, but they posted their biggest win since April 2, 2024.
Oliviah Valdez and Maya Vivas made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Valdez didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Vivas pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Valdez posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Valdez scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Vivas went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Natalie Holzer and Isabel Higuera did most of the damage at the plate: Holzer went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double, while Higuera scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most RBI Holzer has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Gonzales, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Walden Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Flowing Wells only posted an OBP of .261.
Amphitheater's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Walden Grove, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
