Softball Game Preview: Franklin-Simpson Wildcats vs. Bowling Green Purples

The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats will take on the Bowling Green Purples at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Franklin-Simpson was able to grind out a solid win over Ohio County, taking the game 4-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Franklin-Simpson got a great performance from Hester Blanckenberg as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Holland, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Woodall, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Bowling Green posted their closest win since April 25th on Monday. They skirted past Owensboro 8-7.

Bowling Green has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-14-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Franklin-Simpson, their win bumped their record up to 14-21.

Everything went Franklin-Simpson's way against Bowling Green in their previous meeting back in March, as Franklin-Simpson made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Purples turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
