The Mansfield Timberview Wolves will challenge The Colony Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Thursday, Mansfield Timberview didn't have too much trouble with Grapevine as they won 35-20. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Mustangs are ranked 352nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mansfield Timberview's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trysten Shaw, who picked up 92 receiving yards and one touchdown. Mylez Davis also deserves a shout-out for his two scores.
Mansfield Timberview didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Grapevine to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Caden Bates and Davin Hill, who each logged one passes deflected. Mansfield Timberview wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 42.3%.
Meanwhile, The Colony strolled past Grapevine with points to spare last Friday, taking the game 38-23. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Mansfield Timberview better focus on containing Kendrick McClodden and Jaylen Gaines as the pair were huge in The Colony's win. McClodden gained 134 total yards, while Gaines threw for 304 yards and three TDs. The dominant performance also gave Gaines a new career-high in passer rating (137.7). Tyler Osborne Jr was Gaines' top target, picking up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown.
One reason for the win was The Colony's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Camari Terrell and Anthony Love, who racked up all five sacks between them. Love also made five total tackles, which is notable because The Colony is 3-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 1-3 otherwise.
The win got The Colony back to even at 4-4. As for Mansfield Timberview, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Mansfield Timberview beat The Colony 23-15 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
