Southern Wells hasn't had much luck against Southwood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Raiders will host the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Southern Wells is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Southern Wells will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating South Adams, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Raiders came out on top against the Starfires by a score of 8-5 on Monday. While the Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Jakob Gearheart was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Couch, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Southwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Mississinewa, falling 13-1.
Southwood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Whybrew, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Southern Wells and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Southwood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Southwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Southern Wells has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Southwood, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Southern Wells keep running through batters, or will the Knights buck the trend?
