Baseball Recap: Metro-East Lutheran Takes a Loss

Metro-East Lutheran extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 9-7 in the process. They lost 20-4 to the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered since March 31st.

Metro-East Lutheran saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drake Luebbert, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Father McGivney Catholic, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 19-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.6 runs.

On Father McGivney Catholic's side, Dane Keeven looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Keeven has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Father McGivney Catholic got a massive performance out of Kannon Kamp, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Kamp has posted since back in April of 2024. Scott Phelps also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Coming up, Metro-East Lutheran is taking a road trip to challenge Calhoun at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleville East at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Griffins 2, the Lancers 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
