Baseball Recap: Nauset Regional Comes Up Short

Nauset Regional extended their losing streak to ten on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They came up short against the Sandwich Blue Knights, falling 9-2. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 6-3 to the Blue Knights when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Sandwich, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.

For Sandwich's part, Matthew Taylor made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Taylor also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sandwich is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Taylor was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drew Peters, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was James Niemiec, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

While Nauset Regional had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
