Preview: Basalt Longhorns vs. Coal Ridge Titans
Basalt has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Coal Ridge Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Basalt suffered a rough 29-6 defeat at the hands of Moffat County. Basalt was down 22-0 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Meanwhile, Coal Ridge had to endure a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 20-13 victory over Grand Valley on Friday.
Coal Ridge's victory bumped their season record to 1-6 while Basalt's defeat dropped theirs to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' game: Basalt has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.7 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Coal Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 67.4 per game. How will Coal Ridge fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Basalt against Coal Ridge when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 57-13 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Coal Ridge's Brandon Short, who rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also threw for 12 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
