2A Region 4 recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Region 4 this week, Hector beat Leftwich 33-8. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Wildcats.
West Side was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Rebels defeated Decatur 36-29.
Mountainburg's dynamic duo of Josh Skattebo and Robert Nolen proved to be unstoppable against Hartford, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Skattebo threw for 107 yards and 1 touchdown and Nolen had 73 yards receiving. Bobby Gatewood helped Mountainburg's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 45 yards.
Allen Castaneda provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bulldogs lost to West Side.
Willis Vaught made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Dragons topped the Hustlers. The 6-foot-0 junior grabbed 2 sacks.
Union Christian Academy's Braxton Smith and Will Callaway led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-5 quarterback Smith has thrown for 1,121 yards this season, while Callaway has 26 catches for 346 yards. Gus Nichols from Hector leads the league in rushing with 601 yards.
The top two teams in 2A Region 4 will face off this week when first place Hector takes on second place Mountainburg. Mark Taylor's team topped the Rattlers last week, while Mountainburg defeated Hartford.
There should be lots of points scored when the Wildcats and Tom Harrell's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Hector comes in having scored 181 this season, while the Dragons have scored 135. The Wildcats scored 33 points last week as they bested Leftwich.
Mountainburg took down Joe Hays' team 60-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Samuel Copeland ran for 90 yards and caught 1 pass for 34 yards in the win.
