Basketball Recap: Ninety Six Comes Up Short

Ninety Six lost against Strom Thurmond back in February of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ninety Six Wildcats received a blow as they fell 53-37 to the Strom Thurmond Rebels. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Ninety Six lost, don't look at Janiyah Squire. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. That was a full 54.1% of Ninety Six's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Tatiana Roper was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Ninety Six smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games.

Ninety Six's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Strom Thurmond, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Pelion the next time they take the court. Strom Thurmond will head out to face Pelion at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, while Ninety Six will head out to face them at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
