Preview: Antwerp Archers vs. Ayersville Pilots
The Antwerp Archers will head out on the road to take on the Ayersville Pilots at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Antwerp will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 386th, while the Pilots are ranked 90th).
Last Tuesday, Antwerp came up short against the Blackbirds and fell 48-40. Antwerp has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Ayersville can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They blew past Fort Jennings 55-29. Ayersville pushed the score to 48-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Musketeers had little chance of recovering from.
Ayersville relied on the efforts of Kiersten Manon, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Ally Schindler, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Manon has scored all season. Taylor Craft was another key contributor, scoring five points along with ten rebounds and five blocks.
Antwerp has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Ayersville, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Antwerp took a serious blow against the Pilots in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 52-24. Can Antwerp avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
