Basketball Recap: Mcclave Takes Down Elbert in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, McClave rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 70-12 victory over the Elbert Bulldogs. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matchups by 28 points or more this season.

Abrielle Gomez was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double with 19 points, nine assists, and 12 steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals. Ashlynn Steinbrunn was another key player, shooting 50% from the field to rack up 14 points and six steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: McClave was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Elbert's loss came despite strong showings from Piper Warren and Melanie Hermes. Warren almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 19 boards, while Hermes posted a point and five rebounds. Warren is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 13 or more in each of the last six games she's played.

McClave's record is now 22-2. As for Elbert, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-15.

McClave didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-23 win against Flagler on the 8th. Elbert does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
