Softball Recap: Minnesota Valley Lutheran Takes a Loss

Minnesota Valley Lutheran had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it five. They lost 15-5 to the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chargers have suffered against the Mustangs since May 5, 2016.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Menk, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Taryn Gunderson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, the win got them back to even at 7-7. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12th (when they won 16-0).

On Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart's side, Sadie Kirtz and Hallie Best did most of the damage at the plate: Kirtz went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs, while Best got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those three doubles gave Kirtz a new career-high. Elizabeth Ovitt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minnesota Valley Lutheran will face off against Le Sueur-Henderson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, they will take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
