Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Seward's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Seward owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Concordia/Brownell/Omaha Christian Academy 1-0. That's two games straight that the Bluejays have won by just one run.

Seward got a great performance from Connor Sveeggen as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over eight innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Sveeggen a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Seward's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Riley, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Riley has snagged this season.

Seward is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Concordia/Brownell/Omaha Christian Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-6 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Seward will square off against rival Blair at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Concordia/Brownell/Omaha Christian Academy is set to take on their familiar foe Roncalli Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
