Baseball Recap: Bennington Snags 13th Win in Last 14 Games

It's playoff time, and Bennington had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Gross Catholic Cougars 6-0 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Badgers, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Jarron Utterback, who gave up just three hits to keep Gross Catholic off the board. Utterback has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bennington's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jace Fitzgerald, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. That's the most runs Fitzgerald has posted since back in April. Another was Layne Boever, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Bennington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Gross Catholic, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 18-8 record.

As of now, neither Bennington nor the Cougars have any future games scheduled.
