Softball Recap: Emerald Has No Trouble Against Southside

Emerald's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Southside Tigers with a sharp 21-6 win. Considering the Vikings have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Destinee Powers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. Powers was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Lonna Ann Holloway and Laniya Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Holloway went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Moore went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those four runs gave Holloway a new career-high. Emma Cline was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Emerald hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive matchups.

Emerald's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Southside, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Emerald will challenge rival Westside at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Southside is set to square off against their familiar foe Fountain Inn at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
