Soccer Recap: Godinez Fundamental Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Godinez Fundamental had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They never let the Laguna Hills Hawks onto the board and left with a 1-0 win. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Hawks are ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Godinez Fundamental's one-goal win came courtesy of Armando Puente, who's now up to six this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Godinez Fundamental and bumps their season record up to 13-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two matchups. As for Laguna Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Looking ahead, Godinez Fundamental will take on Northwood at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northwood will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Godinez Fundamental surely won't give up without a fight. Laguna Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
