Baseball Game Preview: Swain County Maroon Devils vs. Hayesville Yellowjackets

Swain County is 2-8 against Hayesville since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Maroon Devils will be playing at home against the Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. Swain County has given up an average of 10.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Swain County lost 12-5 to Franklin on Thursday.

Gavin Cunningham made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Druw Cody, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Hayesville's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Cherokee get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. Considering the Yellowjackets have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hayesville pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Swain County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
