Franklin County and Liberty County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Seahawks will host the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Franklin County's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Taylor County 11-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.
Sarah Ham made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Shasta Butler was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Lilah Millender was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Liberty County entered their tilt with Lincoln on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Trojans.
Like Franklin County, Liberty County also got a great game from a two-way player: Cha'Miya Williams. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Williams was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Lauren Davis was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Harris, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Liberty County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln only managed five hits.
Liberty County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Franklin County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Franklin County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Liberty County struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Franklin County skirted past Liberty County 5-4 in their previous matchup back in February. Will the Seahawks repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
