Football Game Preview: Athens Warriors vs. Brown County Hornets

The Athens Warriors will challenge the Brown County Hornets on Saturday. Brown County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Athens, who comes in off a win.

Athens is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Riverton 55-13 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won nine in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Gage Honn and Talon Digiovanna. Honn rushed for 193 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.7 yards per carry while Digiovanna rushed for 157 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries. What's more, Digiovanna posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.

Athens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 442 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 63 points the game before, Brown County was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They took a 21-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calhoun/Brussels. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Athens' record is now 6-3. As for Brown County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
