Volleyball Recap: Cape Fear Academy Victorious

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cape Fear Academy walked away with it. They came out on top against the Wayne Christian Eagles by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Cape Fear Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14.

Cape Fear Academy can attribute much of their success to Lila Hammer, who had eight digs and two aces. Hammer has been hot for a while, having also posted 12 or more assists the last 30 times she's played.

Hammer wasn't the only good servers: Cape Fear Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Cape Fear Academy's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Wayne Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

Looking ahead, Cape Fear Academy will head out to square off against Coastal Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wayne Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
