Basketball Recap: Yuma Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Yuma entered their tilt with Wray on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They walked away with a 69-56 victory over the Wray Eagles. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 59-49 back in December of 2024.

Yuma was led to victory by Brody Sheffield and Jonathan Thomson. Sheffield posted 22 points and eight boards, while Thomson put up 11 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. Sheffield's evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alex Pensado, who had ten points.

Wray's loss came despite strong showings from Aaron Tena and Adonay Gonzalez. Tena scored 14 points along with seven boards and three steals, while Gonzalez went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points. Tena is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Brodie Riggelman was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Yuma pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. As for Wray, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Yuma will venture away from home to square off against Wiggins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yuma is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season. As for Wray, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Frontier Academy at 4:00 p.m. Wray is facing Frontier Academy at the right time seeing as Frontier Academy is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
