Basketball Game Preview: Las Vegas Wildcats vs. Del Sol Dragons

The Las Vegas Wildcats will be taking part in a tournament against the Del Sol Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Las Vegas has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Del Sol will arrive with seven straight victories.

Las Vegas saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of George Washington Prep. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 58th in Nevada, while the Generals are ranked 379th in California).

Meanwhile, Del Sol took their contest two weeks ago with ease, bagging a 63-29 win over Foothill. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.

Del Sol found their leader in freshman Sabrina Stewart, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, ten assists, and nine steals. The matchup was Stewart's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ge Ge Pickens, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 19 points and three steals.

Del Sol smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 28 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Del Sol's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Las Vegas, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
