Basketball Recap: Southwestern Randolph Comes Up Short

Southwestern Randolph extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-2. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-39 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wheatmore Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 56-34 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February.

As for Wheatmore, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games.

Wheatmore found their leader in sophomore Jordan Starkey, who shot 71% from the field on his way to 18 points and five boards. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Starkey. Another player making a difference was Collin Dodd, who posted nine points and three steals.

Coming up, Southwestern Randolph will challenge West Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheatmore, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Forbush at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
