Preview: Alcovy Tigers vs. Woodward Academy War Eagles
Alcovy is 0-4 against Woodward Academy since December of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Alcovy Tigers will square off against the Woodward Academy War Eagles at 1:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Alcovy beat Forest Park 60-47. Given Alcovy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Forest Park is ranked 500th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Nick Durham, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Durham is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 20 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Andre Jernigan, who scored 12 points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Woodward Academy put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 81-51 victory over Lovejoy. The win was nothing new for Woodward Academy as they're now sitting on six straight.
Woodward Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zachary Foster, who scored seven points along with eight assists and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Foster posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Peters, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Alcovy's victory bumped their record up to 14-12. As for Woodward Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Alcovy came up short against Woodward Academy in their previous matchup last Tuesday, falling 62-55. Can Alcovy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
