Baseball Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

Gateway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Franklin Regional Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Gators of the 15-9 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Christian Vagni was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Jon Saunders was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Tyler Feeser, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Gateway's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Franklin Regional, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.

Coming up, Gateway will host Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Gators surely won't give up without a fight. As for Franklin Regional, they will venture away from home to take on Armstrong at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
