Softball Recap: Legacy Has No Trouble Against Erie

Legacy hadn't done well against Erie recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Lightning put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-1 win. Considering the Lightning have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kady Cosyns spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Legacy let Prisca Smolens and Marcella Moritz run wild. Smolens went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Moritz went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Moritz a new career-high. Delaney Bruny was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Legacy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 3-1 when they post two or more home runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Legacy and bumps their season record up to 5-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Erie, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 8-3.

Legacy has already played their next contest, a 15-4 loss against Rock Canyon on the 13th. As for Erie, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-0 victory against Northfield on the 12th.
