Preview: Antonito Trojans vs. Centennial Rams
The Antonito Trojans and the Centennial Rams will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Antonito comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Antonito lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a rough 61-41 defeat at the hands of Creede. Antonito has struggled against Creede recently, as their contest on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Antonito's loss came about despite a quality game from Destanaya Quintana, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Quintana is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Centennial, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 41-16 walloping at the hands of Trinidad on Saturday.
Antonito's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Centennial, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-8.
Antonito was taken down by Centennial 68-38 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Antonito was down 44-18.
