Basketball Recap: Delphi Community Drops Season-High Score on Western Boone

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delphi Community). They escaped with a win on Friday against the Western Boone Stars by the margin of a single free throw, 75-74. The victory was nothing new for the Oracles as they're now sitting on four straight.

Western Boone's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Hawkins, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 18 points and three steals. Hawkins' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Marcus Fortner was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 14 points.

Delphi Community's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points over those games. As for Western Boone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-12.

Delphi Community has already played their next matchup, a 67-48 victory against Clinton Central on the 15th. As for Western Boone, they will face off against Sheridan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sheridan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Western Boone likes a good challenge.
