Basketball Recap: Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Marciello Fonseca and Alejandro Canales

Central's game on Tuesday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 48-34 bruising from the Springstead Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-34 back in December of 2024.

Central's loss came despite strong showings from Alejandro Canales and Marciello Fonseca. Canales went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points, while Fonseca posted eight points. Those 12 points gave Canales a new career-high.

Springstead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Franco led the charge by putting up ten points. Ryan Sayre was another key player, scoring six points and six steals.

Central's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for Springstead, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Central is taking a road trip to take on Hernando at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hernando is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season. As for Springstead, they will host Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Springstead is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
