Softball Recap: Ardrey Kell Snags Fourth Win in Last Five Games

Ardrey Kell won the last time they faced South Mecklenburg and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Ardrey Kell Knights walked away with a 9-4 victory over the South Mecklenburg Sabres. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly five runs.

Jenna Volturno made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Volturno was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Ardrey Kell let Tessa Sanchez-Barrios and Janey Galek run wild. Sanchez-Barrios went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base, while Galek scored two runs while going 2-for-5. What's more, Galek posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alexa Amodio, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Ardrey Kell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in seven consecutive matches.

Ardrey Kell is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. South Mecklenburg's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ardrey Kell will welcome Palisades at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Mecklenburg, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Ballantyne Ridge at 5:00 p.m. Ballantyne Ridge has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.1 runs per game on average), something South Mecklenburg will no doubt try to take advantage of.
