Baseball Game Preview: Pelham Memorial Pelicans vs. Rye Neck Panthers

The Pelham Memorial Pelicans will venture away from home to challenge the Rye Neck Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Pelham Memorial's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Edgemont 8-0. The win continues a trend for the Pelicans in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rye Neck). They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Sleepy Hollow on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Peter Apoldo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rye Neck is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Apoldo was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Will Tauber was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Stone, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
