5A Centennial recap Nov. 7, 2012
Austin Conway of Overland ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Centennial this season against Mullen last week. Conway ran for 86 yards on the play and finished with 152 on the day as his team fell to the Mustangs.
Cherokee Trail extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mountain Range, 42-6. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Cougars.
Smoky Hill's dynamic duo of Trent Clay and Cam Stupansky proved tough for Denver East to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Clay threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns and Stupansky had 158 yards receiving. Frank Thomas helped Smoky Hill's passing attack out by catching four balls for 33 yards.
Tahj Willingham was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 185 yards as Cherry Creek topped the Angels. Teammate Darryl McNeil added to the ground attack by rushing for 175 yards.
Tanner Gentry made the biggest impact on defense this week as Grandview beat Fairview. The 6-foot-3 senior pulled down two interceptions and forced one fumble.
6-foot-4 quarterback Clay of Smoky Hill is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1579. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, the Bruins' Willingham has rushed for 1384 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Gentry. The Grandview star has 43 catches for 929 yards.
The Wolves' Gentry is only 71 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Fountain-Fort Carson.
Eaglecrest was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Chatfield. The Raptors came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.
