Baseball Recap: Gunderson's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Gunderson came out on top against Yerba Buena on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Grizzlies were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Aztec Warriors. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

JD Murillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jordan Avila and Dominic Lake did most of the damage at the plate: Avila went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Lake went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits Avila has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brandon Salgado, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

The win was the fifth in a row for Gunderson, bringing their record up to 11-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Yerba Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gunderson will take on Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 11.3 runs per game this season. As for Yerba Buena, they will square off against Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
