Baseball Recap: Barron Collier Gets the Win

Barron Collier had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Island Coast Gators on Monday. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Gators on April 7th, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Tucker Engel looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Hernandez Carr, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. John Minerva was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Barron Collier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Island Coast only posted a batting average of .231.

The win made it two in a row for Barron Collier and bumps their season record up to 23-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Island Coast, they moved to 23-7 with that loss, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Barron Collier will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gators: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
